SAMSUNG VS. APPLE FOR THE TV WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Expect a titanic smartphone-like battle between Apple and Samsung for the global TV market when Apple launches its TV.  The balance of forces suggests that Samsung could wind up being the next Panasonic.  Everyone else will similarly suffer the fate of Nokia, Blackberry and others.
For years, TV looked like a small market – only 80 million sets sold a year worldwide – looking ever smaller as Apple grew and grew on a world smartphone market of 850 million units.  But this calculus has changed.

FIXING A DISASTER: PANASONIC, THE DIAGNOSIS

In my last Course Correction, I gave you the job of fixing $80+ billion Panasonic, which has fallen on woeful times.  Succeed and every board in the Global 1,000 will open its checkbook for you.

FIXING A DISASTER: PANASONIC, THE PROBLEM

Fix Panasonic—or even part of it—and the Global 1,000 will open its checkbooks for you.  Your career will be made.  Panasonic is an $80 billion plus outfit that since 1996 has made only about 40% of the operating profit that Apple made in 2012 alone.  By the end of the March 2012 fiscal year (2013 data soon), sales were off 14% since 2007 and operating profits off 90%.  Panasonic lost about $12.5 billion at current exchange rates over the four years to March 2012.  It is delisting itself from the NYSE.  Fix this …
